C.I.T.Y. (Counseling, Information, and Testing for Youth):
Because of the importance of young people being tested for STD and for HIV, a Clinic is held every Monday evening exclusively for youth ages 13-24. The Monday evening C.I.T.Y. Clinic is free and includes counseling, information/education as well as testing.
It is imperative that youth be tested because statistics show that one in four teen girls has an STD and half of all new HIV infections are in people under the age of 25! In 2007, over 300 new HIV infections were identified in Kansas City!
Rapid vs Standard HIV Testing:
- A rapid test is confidential. Test results are available in 20 minutes. A non reactive (negative) result ends the test. When the result is reactive (preliminary positive), a confirmatory blood test is done and a follow up appointment is made.
- A standard test can be confidential or anonymous. Results are available two weeks after the test. A person must return for their results and can come during any of the HIV testing periods, an appointment is not needed. Reults are held for several months and connot be given over the phone.
Anonymous vs Confidential:
Name, address and phone number will not will not be asked for in anonymous testing but will be asked for in confidential testing.
In both anonymous and confidential testing, a person will be asked for city, state, and county of residence; age/date of birth; race/ethnicity; and relationship status
