November 20, 2009 - Ashlee RB Folsom, Clinic Youth Prevention Specialist Elected Co Chair of Statewide Prevention Planning Group

At the quarterly meeting of the Missouri Statewide HIV Prevention Community Planning Group (CPG) meeting in Jefferson City on November 20, 2009, Ashlee RB Folsom, M.A., Youth Prevention Specialist at the Clinic, was elected to serve as 2010 CPG Co Chair representing the urban communities.

Tax dollars are allocated to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for HIV prevention funding.  In order to request funding for HIV prevention, each state must form a Community Planning Group.  The Missouri Statewide HIV Prevention Community Planning Group (CPG) composes a Comprehensive HIV Prevention Plan and requests HIV Prevention Funds from the CDC.  The funds are then allocated throughout the state of Missouri.  The CPG must achieve PIR – Parity, Inclusion and Representation; thus, important stakeholders from all over the state must share their voice at CPG.  The CPG is lead by the Statewide HIV Prevention Planner and two Community Co Chairs, one representing the urban areas of Missouri and one representing the rural areas of the state.

As Youth Prevention Specialist at the Clinic, Ashlee has played the key role in the development, implementation and coordination of the Clinic’s youth prevention services since inception in fall of 2007.  She has more than 7 years experience in STI/HIV prevention education.  Ms. Folsom facilitates the Kansas City region’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), provides STI/HIV prevention education presentations to Kansas City area high schools, colleges and youth-serving organizations, assists with facilitating STI/HIV screening for youth in the Kansas City area and serves on both regional and state STI/HIV prevention planning bodies including serving as co-chair for the Missouri HIV Prevention Community Planning Group Youth Subcommittee
