KC Free Health Clinic Annual Report | 2009-2010

Essential Funding

  • Overall, Clinic revenues: Grants 58%, Contributed Services 34%, Contributions 3%, Special Events 2%, UW Designed Contributions 1%, Other 2%.
  • Largest source of funds-the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Local funders are critical to Clinic operations, especially General Medicine Services -- the Health Care Foundation funds three Clinic areas as does the United Way and the Reach Foundation.
  • Volunteers continue to be vital to the functioning of the Clinic with the value of their contributed services over $2 million.
  • The value of Truman Medical Center’s contributed lab services valued at over $2 million.
  • Unrestricted contributions are critical. The annual appeal raised over $100,000.
  • William T. Kemper Foundation awarded the Clinic $100,000. William T. Kemper Foundation (Commerce Bank Trustee) and United for Hope gave a one-time emergency funding award.
  • Special events, both large and small, bring in funding and new supporters. Bloom, KCBeerfest, and FuzzyFotosKC are supported by countless smaller fundraisers in the community.
  • Expectations are for funding to be more competitive, more focused, and more difficult than ever to get. Several local foundations discontinued or restricted their grant making due to declining investment revenues and the downward economic trend. The Clinic’s funding from Jackson County and from the City of Kansas City decreased.
