Executive Director Sheridan Y. Wood

Sheridan Y. Wood

A University of North Carolina graduate, Sheri has over thirty years experience in the non-profit sector.  She held the position of initiatives manager for the United Way of Middle Tennessee.   She was instrumental in founding a community-based hospice in Chattanooga and a hospital-based hospice in Clarksville, TN serving as executive director of both. Before moving to Kansas City in 1993, Sheri was the executive director of Nashville CARES, which grew to be Tennessee’s largest AIDS service organization.

Since joining Kansas City Free Health Clinic as Executive Director in 1996, Sheri has ensured that the City will have a financially viable free health clinic for many years to come. Committed to the belief that healthcare is a right and not a privilege, Sheri works diligently to increase awareness of the need for high quality healthcare for poor, uninsured and underserved individuals. Under her leadership, 100+ staff and 1,000+ volunteers treat more than 15,000 people each year. Last year, the Clinic dispensed 22,000+ prescriptions and provided 65,912 patient visits, contacts and support activities…all at no charge!

She is currently vice-president of the Kansas City Care Network, vice-president of the Missouri Association of Free Clinics, serves on the Health Council of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and is Co-Chair of the Mid-America Regional Council’s Safety Net Collaborative. As one of the founders of the association in 2001, Sheri serves on the board of directors of the National Association of Free Clinics (NAFC) and is the immediate past-president.

Sheri has served on numerous boards and was recognized by the UCP of Greater Kansas City as a 2010 Hats off to Mothers honoree and by the Council of Philanthropy in 2005 as the Non-Profit Executive of the Year and honored by St. Theresa's Academy with the Mother Evelyn O'Neil Award for Assisting the Poor.

Sheri is married to the Reverend Robert E. Wood, Retired Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Day School in Kansas City and they are parents of four adult children and they have four grandchildren.
