Nurse Practitioner

The General Medicine Services Nurse Practitioner provides diagnosis and treatment of common acute illnesses; prevention and maintenance health care to patients with stable chronic illnesses; and performs interim physical examinations for healthy patients within prescribed guidelines and for selected patient populations. 

Education and Experience

  • MSN in Nursing, with licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner required
  • Experience in public health
  • Mental health and/or substance abuse preferred
  • Two years experience in role of Advanced Practice Nurse preferred

 

Community Health Worker

The Kansas City Free Health Clinic is seeking applications for one full-time (40 hours per week) Community Health Worker.  The Community Health Worker will provide support, advocacy and education to patients screened in the emergency room at Saint Luke’s Hospital. The goal of working with these patients is to link them to a safety net clinic where they will receive their primary care.  The Community Health Worker will be responsible for screening, enrolling and supporting patients with health and social service needs.  Additional requirements could include: attending medical appointments with patients, providing referrals to community resources, providing health and wellness education materials and providing advocacy and support.  This position will be an important part of the health care team to assist patients in caring for their health needs.  These positions will be housed at the Kansas City Free Health Clinic, will be working directly with staff at Saint Luke’s Hospital on a day-to-day basis and will provide services in other safety net clinics as well.  This position requires flexibility to meet patient needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma required with college course work in sociology, psychology or health preferred
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate to diverse populations and cultures
  • Strong desire to help people required
  • Strong working knowledge of health, social service and transportation systems
  • Experience using computers, including Word, Excel and Outlook required

General Medicine Charge Staff Nurse

The General Medicine Charge Nurse is responsible for the implementation of the nursing process with all General Medicine patients as well as day to day management of the General Medicine Clinic.  He/She is responsible to assure that direct patient care and provider support is provided during all General Medicine clinics and that Clinic chronic care protocols and standards of practice are consistently followed by all providers.  He/She coordinates telephone triage, internal and external referral processes and acts as a liaison with internal departments and services regarding shared patient issues.  This position will answer to the Director of General Medicine.  This person is responsible for acting as a liaison with the other departments as well as making decisions in the clinic to improve patient flow, and making sure that all jobs are being done as delegated.  This position is responsible for identifying and communicating with providers, and is responsible for the flow of clinical operations.  He/she is the “go to person” for issues in the clinical area of General Medicine and how it relates with other departments.  He/she will report and consult on issues of concern and have input in the yearly evaluations of the General Medicine staff.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to work as a team member.  Must be able to handle multiple tasks, while meeting deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Demonstrated leadership ability.  The ability to relate to a broad and diverse spectrum of our community and listen to clients in a non-judgmental fashion is a requirement.  

Education & Experience:

Registered Nurse with BS in Nursing preferred.  Valid Missouri licensure.  Experience with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and health education preferred.   Knowledge of adult learning principles a plus.  Supervisory experience and leadership characteristics a plus.  Ability to motivate staff.

 

Development & Special Events Intern

This position supports the Marketing & Development department with job functions related to donor cultivation, gift management, special events, volunteer coordination and general marketing/administrative support. 

This position is a temporary internship set to run from late February through early June.  Approximately 20 hours/week, some nights and weekends.  Stipend provided and, as applicable, efforts made to ensure college credit hour requirements met.

Duties:

  • Entry of donations into Raisers Edge software program & subsequent timely acknowledgement of gifts
  • Social media support
  • General support for Bloom and Fuzzy Fotos special event management
  • Import of volunteer timesheets into Raisers Edge and production of reports for volunteer manager
  • Document production & data reconciliation for MATEC program
  • Creation of digital library for grant records to facilitate archiving and ongoing applications
  • Administrative support and other duties as assigned

Employment Requirements:       

  • Required software proficiency: Microsoft Office
  • Preferred software proficiency: Adobe Creative Suite, Raisers Edge
  • May be required to work offsite (will reimburse mileage per IRS guidelines)
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of existing and emerging social media
  • If candidate is still in college, must have obtained at least junior-level standing

 

Behavioral Health Therapist (Part-Time)

The Kansas City Free Health Clinic has an immediate opening in the Behavioral Health Department for a part-time Behavioral Health Therapist.  This person will be responsible for providing therapeutic interventions with young adult clients (between the ages of 18 and 24).  This position provides, under supervision, a range of psychological assessments, diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients referred.  Additionally, this position will provide an evidence-based individual intervention to young adult males (18-29) in a CDC-sponsored effort to reduce the transmission of HIV. 

The successful candidate will provide onsite mental health crisis interventions, screenings and assessments, counseling and/or psychotherapy with individuals and groups.  He/She will collect client level data through interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluate data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.  This position will work 20 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field
  • Minimum six months of related experience, which may include internship and/or practicum
  • Missouri licensure as LPC or LCSW, or equivalent level
